General

We are in a period when almost all of us have at least one domain name. Some of us use this domain name for a project, some of us use it for personal purposes. A momentary interruption, especially in domain names used in large projects, can also cause you great damage. If there is a problem based on your domain name, you can detect this situation by looking at its status.

What is a Domain Status Code?

It is the name given to an information code, also known as EPP code in some sources. In the registration of a domain name, there is at least 1 status code until the dropping process. This code shows its current status, that is, its status. By examining this code, you can have information about the configurations applied on your domain name.

There are two different categories of status codes. The first one is server code and the second one is customer code. Server codes are determined by the registering host system, while the customer code is determined by the registering company. Server codes have priority over customer codes. Because of this situation, it is useful to carefully examine whether it is a server code or a customer code first.

Server Status Codes:

These are the codes set by the logger system.

addPeriod

Provided after the first registration of a domain name. If the registrar deletes the domain name during this time, the registry may provide a refund or credit to the registrar for the cost of registration.
This is an informational status set for the first few days of your domain's registration. There is no problem with your domain name.

autoRenewPeriod

This code indicates a grace period, provided after a domain name registration expires and is automatically extended (renewed) by the registrar. If the registrar system deletes the domain name during this period, it provides a credit to the registrar for the cost of the registration renewal.
This is an informational status set for a limited time after the automatic renewal of the registration of your domain name. If you no longer wish to keep your domain (i.e. you do not want to pay the renewal fee), you should contact your registrar immediately.

inactive

This status code indicates that your nameservers are not associated with your domain name. Your domain name is not activated in DNS and will not be resolved.
If your domain has been in this state for several days, you may want to contact your registrar to request information about the delay in processing. If your extension requires documentation to be provided for registration, you may need to provide the necessary documentation.

ok

This code is the standard status for a domain name, meaning it has no pending transactions or prohibitions.
Asking your registrar to set status restrictions such as clientTransferProhibited, clientDeleteProhibited and clientUpdateProhibited can help prevent unauthorized transfers, deletions or updates to your domain.

pendingCreate

This status code indicates that the request to create your domain name has been received and is being processed.
If the TLD is in a special registration period, this may indicate that the domain will be allocated at the end of that period. If the TLD is not in a special registration period and you are not the Registrant listed, you should contact your registrar immediately to resolve the issue.

pendingDelete

This status code may be confused with redemptionPeriod or pendingRestore. In such a case, depending on the status set on the domain name (i.e., redemptionPeriod or pendingRestore), the corresponding description described above applies. If this status is not combined with the redemptionPeriod or pendingRestore status, the pendingDelete status code indicates that your domain name is in redemption status for 15 days and you have not restored it within the 15-day period. Your domain will remain in this state for a few days, after which your domain will be purged and completely deleted from the registration database. Once the deletion has occurred, the domain will be available for re-registration in accordance with the registry's policies.
If you wish to protect your domain name, you should contact your registrar immediately to find out what options are available.

pendingRenew

This status code indicates that a request to renew your domain has been received and is being processed.
If you have not requested to renew your domain and do not wish to do so (for example, pay the renewal fee), you should contact your registrar immediately to discuss what options are available.

pendingRestore

This status code indicates that a domain that has not received payment has requested to be reactivated. The registry will hold this status code while the registry waits for the registrar to provide the necessary restoration documentation. If your registrar fails to provide documentation to the registrar within a certain period of time to validate the restoration request, the domain will revert to the redemption state, i.e. the redemptionPeriod state.
Monitor your domain's status codes, often within the defined seven-day period, to ensure that your registrar sends your document within the time window. If this period has expired and your domain has returned to a redemption state, contact your registrar to resolve the issues.

pendingTransfer

This status code indicates that a request to transfer your domain to a new registrar has been received and is being processed.
If you have not requested to transfer your domain, you should contact your registrar immediately to ask them to reject the transfer request on your behalf.

pendingUpdate

This status code indicates that a request to update your domain has been received and is being processed.
If you have not requested to update your domain, you should contact your registrar immediately to resolve the issue.

redemptionPeriod

This status code indicates that your registrar has requested to delete your domain from the registry. Your domain name will be kept in this status for 30 days. After five calendar days following expiration, your domain name will be deleted from the registry database and will become available for registration.
If you want to keep your domain name, you should immediately contact your registry administrator to resolve whatever issues have resulted in your registrar requesting deletion of your domain name. Once the outstanding issues have been resolved and the appropriate fee has been paid, your registrar should restore the domain name on your behalf.

renewPeriod

This grace period is provided after a domain name registration period is explicitly extended (renewed) by the registrar. If the registrar deletes the domain name during this period, it provides a credit to the registrar for the cost of the registration renewal.
This is an informational status set for a limited time or your domain name is renewed by your registrar. If you did not ask to renew your domain and do not wish to keep it (e.g. pay the renewal fee), you should contact your registrar immediately to discuss what options are available.

serverDeleteProhibited

This status code prevents your field from being deleted. It is a status that is usually in effect during legal disputes, at your request, or a redemptionPeriod status.
This status may indicate a problem with your domain that needs to be resolved. You should contact your registrar to request more information and resolve the issue.

serverHold

This status code is set by the Registrar of your domain. It indicates that your domain is not active in DNS configurations.
If you have provided nameservers, this may indicate a problem with your domain that needs resolution. If so, you should contact your registrar for more information. If there is no problem with your domain name, but you need to resolve DNS, you should first contact your registrar to provide the necessary authorization information.

serverRenewProhibited

This status code indicates that the Registrar of your domain name will not allow the domain name to be renewed. It is a rare occurrence that usually comes into effect during legal disputes or when your domain name is subject to deletion.
Most of the time, this status indicates that there is a problem with your domain name that needs to be addressed immediately. You should contact your registrar to request more information and resolve the issue. If there is nothing wrong with your domain and you just want to renew it, you should first contact your registrar and request that they work with the Registry Operator to remove this status code. This process may take longer than for clientRenewProhibited, as your registrar must forward your request to your domain's registry and wait for it to remove the restriction.

serverTransferProhibited

This status code prevents your domain name from being transferred from your current registrar to another. It usually happens during legal or other disputes, at your request, or while a redemptionPeriod status is in effect.
This may indicate a problem with your domain name that needs to be addressed immediately. You should contact your registrar to request more information and resolve the issue. If there are no issues with your domain name and you just want to transfer it to another registrar, you should first contact your registrar and request that they work with the Registry Operator to remove this status code. Alternatively, some Registry Operators offer a Registry Lockout Service that allows registrants to set this status as extra protection against unauthorized transfers. Removing this status may take longer than usual if clientTransferProhibited is present, as your registrar must forward your request to your domain's registry and wait for them to remove the restriction.

serverUpdateProhibited

This status locks the code to prevent your domain from being updated. It is a status that is usually in effect during legal disputes, at your request, or a redemptionPeriod status is in effect.
This status may indicate an issue with your domain that needs resolution. If so, you should contact your registrar for more information or to resolve the issue. If there is no problem with your domain name and you just want to update it, you first need to contact your registrar and request that they work with the Registry Operator to remove this status code. Alternatively, some Registry Operators offer a Registry Lockout Service that allows registrants to set this status as additional protection against unauthorized updates. Removing this status and clientUpdateProhibited may take longer than it should, because your registrar must forward your request to your domain's registry and wait for it to remove the restriction.

transferPeriod

This code is provided after the successful transfer of a domain name from one registrar to another. If the new registrar deletes the domain name during this period, the registration process provides a credit to the registrar for the cost of registration.
This is an informational status set for a limited period of time or the transfer of your domain name to a new registrar. If you do not wish to transfer your domain, you should contact your original registrar.

Customer Status Codes

The domain name is determined by your registrar.

clientDeleteProhibited

This status code notifies your domain's registry to reject requests to delete your domain name.
This status code indicates that it is not possible to delete the domain name registration, which could prevent unauthorized deletion due to hijacking and/or fraud. If you want to delete your domain, you must first contact your registrar and ask them to remove this status code.

clientHold

This status code reports that your domain is not activating your domain in DNS and, as a result, it will not be resolved. It is a rare condition, usually accepted during legal disputes, without payment, or when your domain is subject to deletion.
If there is nothing wrong with your domain, but you need a solution, you should first contact your registrar and ask them to remove this status code.

clientRenewProhibited

This status code notifies your domain registry to deny requests to renew your domain name. It's a rare status that usually comes into effect during legal disputes or when your domain name is subject to deletion.
This indicates a problem with your domain name that needs to be resolved. You should contact your registrar to resolve the issue. If there are no problems with your domain name and you just want to renew it, you'll first need to contact your registrar and ask them to remove this status code.

clientTransferProhibited

This status code instructs you to refuse requests to transfer your domain name from your current registrar to another.
This status indicates that it is not possible to transfer the domain name registration, which will help prevent unauthorized transfers due to hijacking and/or fraud. If you want to transfer your domain, you must first contact your registrar and ask them to remove this status code.

clientUpdateProhibited

This status code notifies your domain's registry to reject requests to update your domain.
This status code indicates that it is not possible to update the domain, which can help prevent unauthorized updates due to fraud. If you want to update your domain, you must first contact your registrar and ask them to remove this status code.
